If you are attending Phoenix Comicon (and you should!), you will not want to miss the fun as The Star Wars Pavilion & Kids Need to Read present the first annual Smuggler’s Run on Sunday afternoon.  Players will join forces with Rebel Smugglers and Jedi as they evade Imperial Troopers and Mandalorian Bounty Hunters in an effort to save the galaxy from illiteracy!  The objective is to collect specific game pieces from selected booths in Exhibitor Hall, all the while avoiding arrest by Imperial Troopers and Mandalorian Bounty Hunter.  Felons may make a donation to Kids Need to Read to get out of jail, or they may serve a sentence up to 10 minutes.  Jedi and other Rebel characters may assist in preventing arrests or leading jail breaks.  In addition, convention attendees may have suspected spies (their friends) arrested!  Kids Need to Read, well-known for its literacy buttons, has made special edition collector’s buttons for this event.  Players who collect all five items will receive a Smuggler’s Certificate and $5 gift card from Bookmans.  All proceeds of the Smuggler’s Run will benefit Kids Need to Read.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
