Kids Need to Read is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to our website. This privacy policy describes our practices regarding the collection, protection and use of information about our visitors and addresses certain other online privacy matters. Collection of Information
Personally Identifiable Information. Kids Need to Read does not collect personally identifiable information through our website except for information that is knowingly provided by visitors, such as name, email address, phone number, mailing address and information requested on our book donation application. In addition, as described below under “Credit Card and Other Donor Information” and “KNTR newsletter,” we receive or may obtain certain personally identifiable information provided through third party websites by donors and subscribers to our newsletter. We collect personally identifiable information solely for purposes of operating our charitable programs, including to communicate with visitors to our website and to process book donation applications.
Non-Personally Identifiable Information. Kids Need to Read may also collect certain non-personally identifiable information about visitors to our website, such as a visitor’s IP or “Internet Protocol” address, the type of Internet browser and operating system a visitor is using, and data about usage of our website (e.g., the number and timing of visits to particular pages). Any such collection of information is solely for purposes of improving the design and content of our website and administering our website. Our website does not use “cookies” to recognize repeat visitors or for any other purpose.
Non-Disclosure of Information
We do not sell to third parties any personally identifiable or non-personally identifiable information that we collect about visitors to our website. We do not otherwise disclose such information to third parties, except that (i) we may announce in our newsletter, on our website and/or by other means certain of our book donations, including the name, city and state of each recipient, (ii) we may disclose personally identifiable information when we are authorized to do so by the person who provided it to us, and (iii) we may disclose information when we determine that doing so is necessary or appropriate for complying with legal requirements, establishing or exercising our legal rights, or defending against legal claims.
Credit Card and Other Donor Information
Donations to Kids Need to Read may be made online by credit card or PayPal. Credit card donations are made through a webpage administered by our credit card payment processor, Sage Payment Solutions, which receives all credit card and other information submitted through such webpage. Kids Need to Read does not receive any information submitted by donors to Sage Payment Solutions or PayPal, except for the name and address of each donor, the donation amount and, in the case of credit card donations, the first four digits of the donor’s credit card number.
All donor information we receive is treated by us in accordance with our policies described above under “Collection of Information” and “Non-Disclosure of Information.” Online donors are encouraged to read the privacy policies of Sage Payment Solutions and PayPal. Kids Need to Read, however, has no control over and is not responsible for the privacy policies and practices of Sage Payment Solutions and PayPal.
KNTR Newsletter Subscriber Information
Subscriptions to the KNTR newsletter are processed through a webpage administered by our email newsletter distribution vendor, MailChimp. All subscriber information submitted through such webpage is received by MailChimp and may be obtained by Kids Need to Read.
Any subscriber information we obtain is treated by us in accordance with our policies described above under “Collection of Information” and “Non-Disclosure of Information.” Subscribers to the KNTR newsletter are encouraged to read MailChimp’s privacy policy. Kids Need to Read, however, has no control over and is not responsible for MailChimp’s privacy policy and practices.
Children’s Privacy
Protecting the privacy of young children is very important to Kids Need to Read. Although we are exempt from the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 as a non-profit organization, we nevertheless comply with its requirements on a voluntary basis. Accordingly, the content of our website is not directed to children under the age of 13 and we never knowingly collect personally identifiable information from such children. If we determine that we have received personally identifiable information from any child under the age of 13, we do not use the information and we delete it from our records.
Links to Other Websites and Services
Our website may contain links to websites and services maintained by other organizations. Such links are provided solely for the convenience of the visitors to our website. We have no control over and are not responsible for (i) the content of such websites and services (except for any profile or other social media content created by Kids Need to Read) or (ii) the privacy policies and practices of such websites and services.
