“Fighting Crime After Bedtime!”

Comic book collectors and aficionados of comic book art will be thrilled with the latest Kids Need to Read Charity Auction on eBay. We have the first two issues of the MidKnight series from Red5 Comics signed by creator and illustrator, Tom Hodges. In addition, we have a signed Hodges color sketch – Batman’s nemesis, the Joker, rendered in Tom’s unique style. This is a signed print of the original art work.

“Fighting Crime After Bedtime” is the tagline for the popular new comic series, which features a conventional-seeming married couple who spring into crime-fighting action after their kids have gone to bed. With the help of their ex-Special-Forces nanny, the couple heroically (and sometimes humorously) defends Philadelphia from an assortment of nasties including the “Fuzzy Bunny Gang” and “Bobo the Clown”. The series manages to combine villainy, fisticuffs and youth-friendly humor.

Series creator Tom Hodges is known for his extensive Star Wars art including the webstrip “Reversal of Fortune” at starwars.com and his many Artist Sketch Cards for Topps’ collectible card series. We are grateful to Tom for his kind donation to Kids Need to Read.

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $30.00. Please use the following link to place your bid: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110232224693  . Bids will be accepted until March 14, 2008. Don’t miss out!

The money raised from this auction will be used to purchase books for underfunded schools and libraries through Kids Need to Read, the charitable organization founded by author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
