Kids Need to Read had the good fortune to be the featured charity of Mesa 2nd Friday’s “Word on the Street” event. The monthly 2nd Friday street party in old downtown Mesa plays around a different theme every month. “Word on the Street” focused on literacy, so Kids Need to Read was a perfect fit.
KNTR had a great time playing a rubber ducky game with the kids and selling the Kids Need to Read 2012 calendars and note cards.
As is usually the case when children are around, we gave books and Highlights magazines to the kids who stopped by to play our game.
This little girl was very happy to win a Highlights High Five magazine.
But then she wanted to keep the ducky.
Tears fell as she left, and not wanting any child to leave our booth unhappy, I ran to present her with her beloved duck.
She left happy.
Some big kids wanted to play, too!
This little boy was thrilled with his prize.
He and Debb shared a high five!
A critter enjoyed watching the passersby near our booth.
Kids enjoyed the critter.
Everyone at KNTR had a fun time running the game, raising some donations, and giving new books and magazines to kids. We are so grateful to Mesa 2nd Friday for presenting Kids Need to Read during “Word on the Street!” The word on the street is, “Say Yes to Books!”
