Sixth Kids Need to Read Charity Auction: The Softwire Necklace & Earrings

The Kids Need to Read MySpace page invites you to participate in their Sixth Kids Need to Read Charity Auction.

This week they are offering this unique necklace and earring set (see above) designed especially for Kids Need to Read and inspired by the imagery of PJ Haarsma’s science fiction novel The Softwire.

The Softwire necklace is made with a handmade lampwork glass focal bead by US artist Kathie Khaldakhar, genuine Swarovski crystal, and solid sterling silver. The small Swarovski crystals that appear whitish grey in the photograph are a unique color-changing type, which will appear light grey or light green depending on the type of lighting. It looks great both ways and lends the piece a sort of alien mystery! The necklace is approximately 18″ long, and the earrings are made with hypoallergenic solid sterling earwires. This necklace set will not be available for sale. Many thanks go to Jessi Clark-White (distinctionjewelry.com) for generously donating this spectacular gift to benefit Kids Need to Read.

The auction is currently running and all bidding ends on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 10:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM PT.

This auction is being conducted by the Ninjas of NathanNation; however, funds are sent directly to Kids Need to Read by the winner. 100% of the money raised will be used to buy books for children. Be sure to watch for many more exciting auctions in the upcoming weeks.

This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
