Shorty Awards

Written by Erin Casey

The Shorty Awards were created to recognize the greatest organizations and people on Twitter . . . or at least those who are accomplished at saying a lot with few words.  The voting will culminate in an awards ceremony taking place in March in New York City, with acceptance speeches that can only be 140-charaters long!  So far, voters on Twitter have put Kids Need to Read in the fourteenth spot in the nonprofit category.  Way to go, Tweeters!  We truly appreciate your support.

If you have a Twitter account, please vote for @kidsneedtoread at the Shorty Awards under #nonprofit to raise awareness for Kids Need to Read!  We would love to make the top five finalists, which at the moment would place us among much larger foundations, such as World Wildlife Fund, Media Matters and PETA.  While you are at it, why not vote for our founders, author PJ Haarsma (@TheSoftwire) under #literature and actor Nathan Fillion (@NathanFillion) under #celebrity!  PJ is currently placed at number fifteen and Nathan is parked at number one!

Thanks!  Have fun voting!
