Second Kids Need to Read Charity Auction: Mal’s Money

The Kids Need to Read MySpace page invites you to participate in our Second Kids Need to Read Charity Auction. This week we are offering Mal’s Money, pilfered from the set of Serenity by the Captain himself, Nathan Fillion.

This particular bill was a personal gift from Mr. Fillion to Kids Need to Read founder, PJ Haarsma. In the denomination of 500, it has been signed by Nathan Fillion, making it all the more sentimental. This illegal tender has been purposely aged for realism as a prop in the film.

Place your bid in the comments section of the KNTR MySpace blog post for the auction. Only bids placed in this way will be considered.

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $20.00. The auction ends on Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at 10:00 PM ET / 9:00 PM CT / 7:00 PM PT, and to help the Aussies 0800 AEST Thursday.

The winner will be notified by private message. The winner will have five days to donate their high bid directly to the Kids Need to Read website at www.kidsneedtoread.org . Click on “Donate Now,” then click on “Make a Donation.” Your signed Serenity money will be mailed as soon as your donation is received.

Many thanks to PJ Haarsma for generously donating this special gift to benefit Kids Need to Read. This auction is being conducted by the Ninjas of NathanNation; however, funds are sent directly to Kids Need to Read by the winner. 100% of the money raised will be used to buy books for children.

Be sure to watch for many more auctions in the upcoming weeks. We have many exciting items being donated for this worthy cause. If you have an item you would like to donate for auction, please drop us a message at this site. You will be responsible for shipping charges.

Best of Luck!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
