The Kids Need to Read Geek Prom Committee has been loitering at the Bookmans Café, plotting to bring you the most Geek-errific prom you never had! I mean, what else do we have to do but spend our evenings drinking smoothies and scheming Geek?
Come on and Geek out Saturday night of the con with Felicia Day, Wil Wheaton, Aaron Douglas, and Daniel Logan at our first annual Geek Prom & Rock Band Party, presented by Bookmans. The stars have agreed to stop by, but we cannot guarantee they will not flee once they see the awe-inspiring assemblage of Geeks before them.
Are you a wallflower? No problem, we will have a special section just for you! The cool kids will take a back seat to all Geeks, Nerds, and Dweebs at this goofy event reeking of cheese!
Are you afraid to dance? No problem, we will have lots of seats for you to watch others flaunt their stuff in the Geek dance-off. If you think you are an awesome Geek dancer, show off for Geek Queen Felicia Day or Geek King Wil Wheaton (if they can take it!) to some of the Geekiest dance music known to mankind. There will be two great prize packages for the “best” male and female Geek dancers, so go for it!
Does high fashion escape you? No problem, just wear your regular Geeky clothes and participate in the Fashion Geek-tacular . . . or just sit and admire the not-so-chic garb of the Geek world. Yes, we have a catwalk! The Geekiest dressed among us can vie to claim the coveted titles of Geek Prom Queen and King by participating in the Geek-tacular. But be warned, it’s not all about the clothes. Personality may play a role in who takes the crowns. And yep, there are two more fabulous prize packages being assembled for the new monarchs of our Geekdom, and a very special song will be sung by author Steven Riley to honor our Geek Highnesses.
Have you always salivated at everyone else’s prom photos under flowery, balloony archways? No problem, because we are creating an epic Geek Arch that will ridicule their blasé excuses for photographic prop-ery. We think you will be very proud to display your image taken beneath this stylin’ work of cheese art. Show everyone that you attended the Prom of the Century!
Have you always dreamed of being a cool rock star, even though un-cool Geek blood runs through your veins? No problem, we will have Rock Band set up for you to dream on for the rest of the evening. Show everyone that you are rockin’ cool!
Rock N Roll High School bands Braincage and No Big Deal promise to play some special Geek-ified music for your auditory pleasure. Free snacks will be provided by Bookmans and a drink cash bar will be available. We will even have goody bags while they last. Door prizes are a given.
A $5.00 contribution to Kids Need to Read will give you access to the frivolity. Photographs at the Geek Arch and entry to play Rock Band will be available for extra donations of $5.00 each. All proceeds will benefit Kids Need to Read. Dress code is Geek casual or formal – real Geeks won’t even need a costume!
Details: Saturday, May 29th, 10:00 PM – 2:00 AM, Hyatt Ballroom A & B, Phoenix Comicon, Phoenix, Arizona. Tickets will be available at the KNTR tables during the convention, or at the door. ID must be presented for entry. Children are welcome.
