Mingo or Fanty?

Well, could YOU tell them apart? Mingo and Fanty, the Beaumonde businessmen who gave Mal such a hard time in the movie Serenity, are played by real-life twins, Yan and Rafael Feldman. Kids Need to Read was lucky enough to meet up with Yan at one of his recent convention appearances, and the handsome, young actor graciously signed one of our infamous Terrify’n Space Monkeys. He added “Mingo” underneath his signature. Now we are SURE it is him and NOT Fanty! Kids Need to Read Charity Auctions is delighted to offer you the opportunity to own this captivating collectible.

Our plush primate is 15″ high, wearing a shirt with “Terrify’n Space Monkey” hand painted on the front by our fabulous KNTR kid, Kelly. A mini Kids Need to Read button is pinned to his shoulder.

We are grateful to Yan Feldman for good-naturedly signing our Space Monkey, to Sean Harry of Starfury USA for helping us in our autograph quest, and to Marty Dwyer and Denise Gary for donating these kooky critters to benefit Kids Need to Read.

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $40.00. Please use the following link to place your bid: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110232863331 . The auction will conclude on March 16, 2008.

The money raised from this auction will be used to purchase books for underfunded schools and libraries through Kids Need to Read, the charity project founded by author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion.

This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
