Students at Children First Academy in Tempe, Arizona created posters as part of the Kids Need to Read Kids-N-Peace program conducted at the campus by School Counselor Todd Kemmerer.
Kids Need to Read provided each fifth through eighth grade student with a copy of Jay McGraw’s Life Strategies for Dealing with Bullies, which was read and discussed extensively throughout a portion of the fall semester. The poster project was designed to allow each grade to work together as a team to illustrate the concepts they had learned during the unit of study.
Project participants came up with creative ideas to illustrate the destructiveness of bullying, such as the bully tree, which weakens and dies through continuous bullying.
Principal Jevon Lewis judged the posters and the winning class received a pizza party!
Not only did students learn clear strategies for dealing with bullies but they also absorbed the priceless knowledge that books can be used as effective problem-solving tools throughout their lives.
Thank you to Principal Jevon Lewis, School Counselor Todd Kemmerer, and the teachers of Children First Academy—Tempe for allowing Kids Need to Read to provide resources to assist the students of this unique school.
