Jan. 17 – Ask a Question, Receive a Free Book at Phoenix Cactus Comicon 2008

Would you like to learn more about writing and publishing books, what it’s like to build your own online video game, how to start a working fan group, or how Kids Need to Read volunteers work to help under-funded schools and libraries? Kids Need to Read invites all Phoenix Cactus Comicon (www.phoenixcomicon.com) attendees to come kick back at our discussion panel on Saturday, January 26 at 12:00 PM. Our very special guest is PJ Haarsma, author of The Softwire series of young adult science fiction books and creator of the Rings of Orbis free online MMO game.

We’ll auction a DVD collector’s package signed by TV and film star Nathan Fillion (Serenity), as well as a special sci-fi package containing a Terrify’n Space Monkey autographed by three Serenity cast members and loaded with Star Trek, SFX, and Softwire swag! PJ Haarsma will be on hand to sign copies of The Softwire: Virus on Orbis 1. We’ll also have a special thank you giveaway of an Advance Reading Copy (ARC) of PJ’s upcoming book, The Softwire: Betrayal on Orbis 2. PJ Haarsma donated this rare ARC; the book will not be available in stores until late March 2008.

Don’t miss SpazDog Comics’ booth! Kids Need to Read and SpazDog Comics have teamed up to make signed and unsigned copies of Dark Horse Comic’s Serenity: Better Days #1 available to Serenity and comic book fans alike. SpazDog comics will be taking pre-sale orders for this epic comic, for which actor Nathan Fillion has agreed to sign 250 copies with proceeds benefiting Kids Need to Read. Signed copies sell for $25 with net profits going directly to Kids Need to Read. Unsigned copies sell for $4 with $2 donated to Kids need to Read. Serenity: Better Days #1 arrives in stores March 12. Signed copies will be in-store for pickup in April.
