It’s our Birthday! This August, Kids Need to Read is celebrating 16 incredible years of spreading the joy of reading and empowering children with the gift of books.

Kids Need to Read donates more than just books and reading resources. We bring support to public and school libraries who’s funding has been reduced to bare operational standards. We bring relief to teachers who provide their own classroom books. Most importantly, we empower families who have the will to lead their children to success in reading but may lack the means.

Now, more than ever, your support is crucial to our cause. Your contribution, no matter the size, will directly impact the lives of young readers and create a brighter future for them. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey and for helping us make a positive impact on the lives of children.

With heartfelt gratitude,
 Jessica Payne

From Our Shelves to Yours

Kids Need to Read doesn’t just work with schools, we work with many different types of organizations who serve children.  This library in Mississippi partnered with Kids Need to Read to create a much needed summer reading event.

The impact we are making on children’s lives and their communities nationwide is crucial, and we will continue to address the severe absence of books across the United States through the support of individuals and organizations like you.

The Page Coach

Storytime is just not the same without a fun character! Our Storybook Adventures initiative through the Page Coach  has been growing exponentially throughout this summer.

At the event  pictured above, Executive Director’s character “Pirate Captain Ruby Red Lips” was recognized by several children. Many children were excited to share about the literary treasure they had at home. One child even showed his appreciation by gifting a his recently finished drawing.  It is events like theses that show us that what we do makes a lasting impact.

Grow Your Library

Looking forward to the future is at the main core of Kids Need to Read’s Grow Your Library program. Everything from the initial book donation, to the special story time and book giveaway community event and finally the individual book request is designed to encourage the next generation to be involved with their community library and invested in their own literary future.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
