KNTR’s first one-room office space
It was just a year ago that Kids Need to Read moved into its first permanent office space. We all worked out of one small room, with the landlords kindly providing an allocated area in the basement to store books. Over the past year, KNTR has grown like Jack’s beanstalk and working without proper space became extremely problematic. We knew it was time to find a larger space and soon! Thanks to the efforts of Steve Gary, a terrific alternative was located – a nearby 1940 era converted house, which would triple our work and storage space. We are so grateful to Beehive Property Management, LLC and Commercial Properties, Inc. for making this step up affordable for our humble nonprofit.
Of course, this meant that we had to move during the oppressive late August heat of Mesa, Arizona. Not to worry . . . we have the KNTR Ninjas at our disposal!
They worked like machines dismantling desks, and hauling boxes and boxes and boxes of books out of the basement!
A large box truck was completely filled, along with volunteers’ cars and trucks.
At the new location, pizza was served to the hungry volunteers.
Kids Need to Read depends on its incredible volunteer corps, and we are so thankful to all who gave up their precious time to pitch in and help the organization with such an arduous task!
In front of the office is a new sign – one that reminds all passersby that “kids need to read!”
