Oh, the great times we always have at the annual Arizona Renaissance Festival book drive for Kids Need to Read! For six years, the festival has been holding the book-raiser benefiting KNTR during their highly popular Pirate Invasion Weekend and this year, the festival raised 600 books! The annual book drive is an enormous blessing to our organization … in addition to being just plain fun!

Every child who swaggered, flittered, or sashayed up to the Kids Need to Read station with a new children’s book was provided with a free admission ticket to the faire (courtesy of Arizona Renaissance Festival), a free Highlights magazine (sponsored by Highlights for Children), and a seafaring coloring page designed by Red Nebula Studios!

Some even tried to bribe HRH, the Queen.

His Eminence, the Mayor, made an intellectual choice in reading material.

Of course, we managed to find some moments to eat faire delicacies, purchase unique treasures, and enjoy the entertainment.

We were so grateful to receive so many fantastic books, while the adults and children were thrilled to receive their tickets, magazines and coloring pages.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
