This is Kids Need to Read’s seventh year as the sponsored charity of Phoenix Comicon! It is an honor to continue to serve as one of the convention’s major avenues of community service, providing much-needed reading resources and literacy programs for disadvantaged children throughout the valley and beyond. Before the convention has even started, Phoenix Comicon has raised an astounding $24,900 for KNTR through advance sales of the first 100 Fast Passes! An additional $1,155 has been raised through the Phoenix Comicon Page Coach Challenge, providing funds to purchase books for KNTR’s mobile outreach unit. This is unbelievably generous support by a pop culture convention for its charitable beneficiary!

Kids Need to Read has a terrific line-up of events at Phoenix Comicon 2016, thanks to the convention’s staff and volunteers, as well as the sponsors, artists, cosplayers, authors and KNTR volunteers who contribute their time and talent to support our organization! We are thrilled to partner with the Arizona Coyotes again on this year’s KNTR Build-a-Book program with Steven Riley! From children’s activities to parties and creative fundraisers benefiting Kids Need to Read, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to look for The Page Coach at the car show and please come join us for a geektastic weekend!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
