Kids Need to Read recently received a contribution in the amount of $10,000 from A-Kon®, an anime convention conducted during the first weekend of June in Dallas, Texas. In a letter, Vice Chairman Laura Morris explained, “This year we tried several different donation ideas, and I am very pleased to let you know that this is the largest single donation we have made to any of the organizations that we have donated to. I know that you will be able to put the money to good use.” After speaking further with Ms. Morris, we found out the majority of funds were raised through a specially designed Charity Donor Badge, as well as a charity auction. The results were stunning, to say the least! Kids Need to Read is honored to be the recipient of such a generous gift on behalf of the children we serve.
We are deeply grateful to show runners Laura Morris and Meri Davis of Phoenix Entertainment Media Group, LLC, as well as Chris Terrell and Hayley Luther, who spearheaded the incredible fundraising drive. Also, we sincerely appreciate the kindness of Stan Henderson and Matt Barkett at DFW Printing. The company printed the charity donor badges at no cost so the total proceeds would benefit Kids Need to Read. Thank you all for believing in our cause, as the provision of books to schools and libraries continues to decline rapidly.
Thanks so much to the convention goers who supported A-Kon’s spectacular fundraising efforts. We appreciate everyone coming together in support of childhood literacy!
