Our Captain in Comics!

In 2005 Joss Whedon and Brett Matthews wrote a 3-issue series of comic books entitled Serenity: Those Left Behind. A unique aspect of the publication is that each issue of this series was printed with three different covers, one for each member of the Serenity crew. Kids Need to Read Charity Auctions presents a very special edition – Issue #1 featuring Captain Mal Reynolds on the cover and signed by actor Nathan Fillion. A perfect combination!

The limited-edition series was published by Dark Horse Comics, illustrated by Brazilian artist Will Conrad, and colored by Laura Martin. The Mal cover is illustrated by award-winning comic book artist John Cassaday. The comic is full color and 32 pages in length.

The story is set between the end of Joss Whedon’s series Firefly and the beginning of the subsequent feature film Serenity. The story serves as a bridge between the two, and gives more details about Joss’s rough and tumble ‘verse.

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $30.00. Please use the following link to place your bid: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110259168153 . Bids will be accepted until June 8, 2008.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
