For the fourth year in a row, Life Alert Emergency Response, Inc. is sponsoring the annual Kids Need to Read wall calendar. The company has kindly contributed $2,400 to print the upcoming 2014 calendar, which will be introduced at the end of May during Phoenix Comicon (May 23–26, 2013). The calendar will feature original art and literacy quotes from twelve fine artists who graciously support our foundation. Each inspired piece beautifully illustrates our mission to create a culture of reading for children and adolescents. Due to the generosity of Life Alert and our extraordinary contributing artists, ALL proceeds directly benefit Kids Need to Read.

We thank the following artists who have contributed their time and talent to the Kids Need to Read 2014 calendar project:

Mark Wayne Adams
Chris Gall
Marisa Grieco
Travis Hanson
Jason Horn
Jason T. Kruse
Jon S. Lewis
Jackie Morris
James A. Owen
Tony Parker
Steven Riley
Mike Woodcock

We also thank Hi-Fi Design of Surprise, Arizona for coloring the art of Jason T. Kruse and Jon S. Lewis, as well as Kate Finnegan for coloring the art of Tony Parker, and Jeremy Owen for coloring the art of James A. Owen. Dawn Russo, you remain the golden goddess!

And, if you have not yet purchased your copy of the KNTR 2013 calendar, there are still some left. Remember, 100% of the proceeds benefits Kids Need to Read! You will find them in the Kids Need to Read eBay store. They are perfect for libraries and classrooms—shining a bright light on literacy all year long!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
