Located on West Broadway Road in Mesa, Arizona, the new facility provides us with the additional space needed to expand our efforts as we work to provide vital reading resources across the nation. Many wonderful, brand new industrial shelves now house the thousands of books coming and going through our doors to benefit the libraries, schools, communities, and children that need them! We have also added our first ever story time/event/meeting space, complete with colorful shelves, literacy art prints, sparkling stars overhead, and, of course, books! It is all very exciting!

The Open House takes place on Tuesday, May 12th, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Executive Director Denise Gary will formally welcome our guests at 4:30, followed by a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with members of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce at 4:45.

We encourage all of our supporters and interested community members to come learn more about Kids Need to Read and the work we do, including information about our current and upcoming programs. You will also have the opportunity to mingle with staff, volunteers, and members of the KNTR Board of Directors over light refreshments, compliments of event sponsor Literologie, as well as Costco.

Additionally, you will be able to enter to win a number of fantastic door prizes! We will be raffling prizes donated by Bonny Books, Changing Hands Bookstore, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, Out of Print, Phoenix Comicon, and The Nail Spot.  Each attendee will receive one free raffle ticket; additional tickets will be available for donations.

Thanks so much to Literologie, Mesa Chamber of Commerce, Costco, and our kind door prize donors!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
