Kids Need to Read Fuels Caribbean Dreams

When librarian Brenda Rodriguez moved back to her native Puerto Rico after living in the United States for some time, she discovered that her students at Borinquen Bilingual School and Sport Development Center in Aquadilla, did not have access to enough books appropriate for their reading levels.  Borinquen Bilingual School is an elementary school that serves almost six hundred children.  With the help of parental donations, the school started a library two years ago, but Brenda discovered that she did not have nearly enough books to meet the needs of the students.  Brenda contacted Kids Need to Read in August 2008 searching for help.

When we approved Brenda’s request, she sent us this lovely thank you:

You cannot imagine how thrilled we are … for this blessing and for placing both of us, you and me, in this beautiful path of helping kids.  Thanks a lot to you for your commitment …KNTR really is an example of how to be a facilitator in making true the dreams of others.  We will count [through  the] endorsement of an organization that really cares about building strong foundations for our kid’s future.  Thanks, thanks, thanks, and blessings to you and your staff.  Big hugs from the Caribbean!

Kids Need to Read was thrilled to get such an enthusiastic letter and sent 30 books, valued at $380, to the Borinquen Bilingual School.  Brenda was kind to send us this update upon the books arrival:

Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!  We want to thank you all for your kindness.  As soon as we received the books, our students started reading them.  So KNTR receives a big hug!

Kids Need to Read sends thanks to Brenda for all of her hard work getting kids to read.  We are delighted to help the Borinquen Bilingual School make some Caribbean dreams come true!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
