Kids Need to Read News

Many exciting activities are developing at Kids Need to Read, and we just have to share a little bit about all of the things going on around here. We are always working hard to keep our program strong and vigorous so that we can fulfill our mission for more and more children.

Now that summer is over and kids are back in school, KNTR has placed many book orders for a wide variety of worthy programs. We have orders out for an upstart kids’ book club, a library created by volunteers because none existed in their community, a National Guard program for teens, and a shelter for women and children who are victims of violence. We are also excited to have placed our second order for the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic, this one being much larger than our first. We remain committed to providing books for their older patients not served by Reach Out and Read.

We feel it is extremely important to assure our giving in perpetuity, so we are in the process of creating a very special endowment for the foundation. It will be named for some very special supporters of Kids Need to Read. We will have an announcement for this endowment very soon.

To expand on our mandate to be an educational program for children and on our mission to encourage reading, KNTR is developing a “Kid Book Reviews” program for the recipients of our donated books. This program will be fun and include prize incentives for all participants. Please look for it in the near future.

KNTR is redesigning our website, and we expect to debut our new look soon. We believe the new design will make our organization’s vitality and enthusiasm readily apparent to all that visit us. All of the information about our program, donations, fundraising activities and other important news will be easier to find and retrieve. We hope that you will like our new look and visit us often.

We aren’t stopping there. We have many more fun and productive ideas in the works, courtesy of our passionate, dedicated volunteers. Thank you for standing behind Kids Need to Read and supporting our efforts to grow.

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
