PJ Haarsma, Nathan Fillion, and Captain Monkey Pants

Our first Kids Need to Read Charity Auction on eBay is up and flying…again! We are featuring another of our irrepressible Terrify’n Space Monkeys, but this time, there’s a new slant – a slanty gun belt, that is. Yes, this suave simian sports a space-monkey-sized gun belt and holster atop his Captain Reynolds-style pants and suspenders. His shirt has been signed by Captain Tightpants himself, actor Nathan Fillion.

This pistol-packin’ primate is 15″ high, wearing a shirt with a Kids Need to Read mini-button and Nathan Fillion’s signature on the front — together with his pants and gun belt, it’s a complete captain outfit!!

We are greatly indebted to actor Nathan Fillion, who not only signed our little critter, but even adjusted his gun belt (apparently it needed more “slant”!) making this a VERY special collector’s item! Our thanks also to Marty Dwyer, who devised our monkey’s unique space-captainy look!

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $40.00. Bids will be accepted until Saturday, February 16, 2008. Please use the following link to place your bid http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110223778758

All of Kids Need to Read’s proceeds for February will go to support the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic in Seattle, Washington. Through the Reach Out and Read © Program (ROR), the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic can give new books to children between the ages of six months through five years at each well child check. Once a child turns six, they are no longer able to provide new books through ROR and rely solely on the generous support of individuals, companies and organizations. Kids Need to Read would like to help supply books for the clinic’s older children not served by ROR. The proceeds from this auction will help Kids Need to Read, the charity project founded by author PJ Haarsma and actor Nathan Fillion, achieve that goal.

Let the bidding begin!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
