Coveting Cover Art!

Welcome to the 22nd Kids Need to Read Charity Auction, where we are offering a booklover’s treasure! Fans on both sides of the Atlantic are familiar with Frank Beddor’s Looking Glass Wars trilogy, as well as the companion comic book series, Hatter M. Possibly less well known is the fact that Book 1 of the trilogy was first released in England in 2004, after being rejected by publishers in the States. The novel quickly created a sensation, and its success in Britain led directly to its American release in 2006.

Now we are proud to offer the original LGW UK proof from the British version of The Looking Glass Wars, the book that started it all! The cover of the proof is the cover as it appeared in the UK, authenticated by Frank Beddor’s signature. To further enhance this collector’s item, the package includes a complete set (4) of Cardsoldier War stickers, a Cardsoldier War postcard, Seeing Redd and Hatter M bookmarks, and a Looking Glass Wars removable tattoo. Our thanks to Frank Beddor for donating this unique prize!

Bidding begins immediately and opens at $40.00. Bids will be accepted until Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008 at 10pm ET/ 9pm CT/ 7pm PT.

Place your bids now in the comments section of this blog. Bids must be placed here to be considered. The winner will be notified by PM and will have 5 days to donate the high bid directly to the Kids Need to Read website at http://kidsneedtoread.org (or you can click on “KIDSNEEDTOREAD.ORG HOME” at the top of this page. Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
