Calling All Witches, Warlocks, and Muggles Alike!

Attention Harry Potter fans!  Kids Need to Read has some exciting news for you!  We’ve partnered with Azkatraz, a Harry Potter convention in San Francisco.  The convention organizers have graciously arranged for KNTR to be charity benefactor for the show, which runs from July 18 to July 21.  They are supplying KNTR with an exhibitor table to help us spread the word about our mission to get books to kids who need them.  Special thanks go out to Heidi Tandy of the Harry Potter Education Fanon for this opportunity!

In addition, ArtInsights is helping Kids Need to Read by donating 10% of the proceeds from all sales of their Harry Potter artwork to our cause.  This is an ongoing fundraiser for KNTR, but it is directly linked to Azkatraz.  ArtInsights will be debuting two brand new pieces of art at the convention. These prints are simply stunning, and anyone who purchases one will not only be obtaining a beautiful piece of art but will also be helping Kids Need to Read!  It’s a win-win situation!  KNTR extends a huge thank you to Leslie Combemale of ArtInsights for her generosity.

Finally, as if all of this wasn’t enough, Erin Pyne (of the Harry Potter Club) is producing a very special book for Azkatraz, and she is donating all of her author royalties from sales of the book to KNTR!  The Harry Potter Symposium will be a keepsake available for purchase to those who attend the convention.  It will also be sold to fans who can’t make it to San Francisco after the show via amazon.com.  The book will feature interviews from the event organizers, special guests, bands, and artists involved in the Harry Potter community.  Erin was even kind enough to grant Kids Need to Read an entire page in the book to talk about our organization and our mission.

Wow!  What a magical weekend Azkatraz is shaping up to be for Kids Need to Read!  So come one and come all!  Don’t miss your chance to escape to Hogwart’s for the weekend.  There’s sure to be plenty of mischief to manage, and it’s all for a good cause, so even Hermione can’t get very upset with us if we have a little too much fun!  Wands at the ready!  Accio, Azkatraz!

Tis the Season

Once Upon a Time… It was a dark and stormy night… This is the tale that was told to me…: Throughout history, winter has been a season rich in the tradition of storytelling, serving as a captivating blend of entertainment and education for individuals of all ages. This enduring legacy is exemplified in Beowulf, one of the oldest recorded stories, where the narrative opens with a compelling command, “Listen! we have heard of the might of the kings,”. No matter the opening line, the timeless power and importance of story and literacy is in its ability to connect generations and communities through the ages.
